Role

Our client is a leading asset manager and provider of third-party loan and advisory services, with substantial loan and commercial real estate asset under management. These are comprised of commercial real estate portfolios and residential mortgage, as well as personal, small and medium enterprise (SME) and auto loans.

Our client is currently seeking a Legal Counsel candidate, to provide legal support to the Mortgages Operations team, Commercial Real Estate team and internal contact to support the delivery of commercial objectives and mitigate company loss through the management of the mortgage legal recovery process.

Role Requirements

The successful candidate will be responsible for oversight across a number of practice areas, but in particular, would be expected to have had some exposure to both conveyancing and litigation.

Litigation

  • Communicate effectively to the business in relation to changes in legislation and legal policies.
  • Complete all relevant legal documentation relating to Mortgage court cases.
  • Instruct solicitors on the commencement and progress of the mortgage recovery.
  • Make recommendations on cases based on input from external solicitors and internal account reviews.
  • Preparation of accounts for review by the Account Review Committee providing case progress and minutes.

Conveyancing

  • Audit of title deeds inventory and tracking of deeds location.
  • Liaise with the Mortgage teams and panel solicitors re: completion of conveyances.
  • Management of securities including release and vacate ion account settlement.
  • Review title deeds to confirm good marketable title.
  • Work closely with the business to assist in the rectification of deed and insurance issues.

Other

  • Ensure all tasks are conducted in a manner complaint with all policies, procedures and legislative requirements.
  • Ensure weekly auction and sales report are completed within the set time frame.
  • Involvement in a variety of projects as directed by Management Team which support the Pepper overall strategy.
  • Lead, develop, enhance and maintain all reporting and analysis for the team including legal statistic, court case actions/results, legal costs etc.
  • Providing advice and guidance to the Mortgage Teams in relation to cases in the legal process.
  • Support the business to bring high value, contentious litigation and conveyance cases to a satisfactory settlement and conclusion.

Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 0-3 PQE with a general practice background essential
  • Knowledge of relevant mortgage legislation and industry requirements which may impact across the industry
  • Previous experience dealing with Receiverships
  • Qualified Solicitor (essential)
  • Relevant legal experience gained in the areas of property and/or litigation

Role Remuneration

This is a 23-month Fixed Term Contract. Salary range 55 – 65k. Bonus max 6%.
